The municipality of Kecerovce is also well known for the fact that there are 3 faraway settlements in which Roma residents live. Each of these settlements is specific for their own community life, family and social structures. Every community is different. The settlement in Kecerovské Kostoľany, where self-build houses programme is implemented, is one of the poorest and the hardest nuts for any development work. Our self-build houses programme intended for personal ownership started a turn to full-featured neighborhood.

A new spacious street is being constructed, where connection to electricity, water and canalization are a standard for new houses. In November 2021, new people interested in the programme appeared during the building of foundations of houses. Good news spread fast, residents of the two neighbouring Kecerovce communities showed interest in the programme. Thirty-one new active families are in saving programme today. Debates between savers about a new street construcion in Kecerovské Pekľany encourage representatives of the municipality to take particular steps for preparation of a brand new neighborhood. The preparation process includes a large scale of operations – purchase of land (building plots), reparcelling, preparation of technical equipment of the new street. However, the good things are already on the way.
